Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Fair   Has had professional restoration to what could have been a chip/chunk off the back rim (that doesn't look to exceed 3-4cm across) which is difficult to ascertain for certain due to the sheer expertise of the restorer and looks only to be evident on the face edge at 10 oclock and even then only on the outside of the border. Otherwise excellent with just the odd tiny minor mark in the glaze which in no way detracts

Pot Lid:   'ST PAUL'S BRAND'

Description:  An attractive pot lid featuring a fabulous picture of the iconic St Paul's Cathedral in London, this being the Cherry Tooth Paste variant that is slightly domed in shape. Exceptional print quality. Double line and beaded border.

Pot Lid:   'LORIMER & CO, LONDON & NEW YORK'

Description:  A superb 'Sanoline' tooth paste pot lid from this popular perfumer in London with a fabulous pictorial of three Geisha girls. Particularly good print for one of these. Scarcely seen for sale with such great print and without major issues.

Pot Lid:   'BON MARCHE, LIVERPOOL'

Description:  One of two known variants of this appealing small building pictorial lid from Liverpool both featuring a pictorial of the old Bon Marche department store in the city. This version with the wording 'Tooth Paste' in all white and having a scalloped ring as part of the border design at 9 and 3 o'clock. Great overall quality print (with a totally insignificant very small area of print-miss on the border at 10 o'clock only). Not often seen for sale

Pot Lid:   'BAYLEY & CO, LONDON'

Description:  An appealing and early pictorial London lid featuring a superb pictorial of a civet cat. Fancy 'barley twist' type border with interesting wrap-around double border print on underside of rim edge. Exquisite print quality. Rarely seen for sale in such great undamaged condition

The dried secretions from a gland on the rear end of a civet cat were used (and still are) in the perfumery business. This North American mammal was in fact not a cat but from the raccoon family.

Pot Lid:   'C.H.SWIFT, HUDDERSFIELD'

Description:  An appealing 'Hair Regenerator' lid from this West Yorkshire market town featuring a crowned 'young head' Queen Victoria in great detail. Beaded border. Very much based on the more popular Gosnell B&W lid. Excellent quality print.

Pot Lid:   'HAUNTED HOUSE'

Description:  An appealing cherry tooth paste pot lid featuring what has been aptly called the 'haunted house' with the lettering around it having that 'spooky' feel too. Also featuring hanging cherries around the outside. Very cleverly designed to great effect (and without the added numbers in the print that often obscure the pictorial). Fabulous layout. Double line border. Superb quality print. Rarely seen with such great print and in superb condition

Pot Lid:    'KRANOL'

Description:  An eye-catching large lid featuring a girl with very long hair (presumably after using this product). Classic design and always popular with collectors. Exceptional print quality (with just the odd tiny minor smudge). Scarce to find without any damage. You'll struggle to find a better all-round example

Most likely a Cheshire business, possibly even the city of Chester itself as many of the damaged ones found in the '80's came from around here. Design reg date is 1896

Pot Lid:  'C. DAVIES, BRISBANE'  

Description:  This appealing Australian pot lid features an emu and kangaroo either side of a shield containing various images (including a hanging sheep, mining tools, wheat sheaf and sailing ship) all surmounted by what looks like a sunrise with light radiating around the coat of arms. Excellent print quality

Pot Lid:   'DANIEL MELIA'

Description:  A classic lid featuring an attractive girl with long wavy hair and an alluring smile (no doubt attributable to using this brand of toothpaste). Excellent quality print. Scarce

Daniel Melia built a chain of successful grocery outlets in a number towns in North-West England and the Midlands. This is why this tooth paste pot lid does not feature any locations as it was possible to sell it from all the company’s outlets

Description:   An attractive pictorial London lid featuring a large detailed tree within a belt (and a wreath surrounding it). Excellent quality print (with just the odd tiny print mark).

Description:  A tiny 1.5" variant of this popular lid with Princess Alexandra pictured facing the left. Rare in this small size. Excellent quality print. 

A decent example in AAA14 (Jan '19) sold for £925

Condition (please see detailed photo's):   Fair  Has a smallish (2mm x 5mm) chip on the rim edge (at around 11 o'clock) with a small oval hairline bruise right next to it and across part of the face, a very small (2mm x 3mm) old chip/flake mostly on the underside of the outer rim at about 4 o'clock and two chips on the back rim; the first (2mm x 4mm) and the larger at (3mm x 10mm). Well worth restoring, especially with the print being so good

Description:  This attractive Isle of Man tooth paste pot lid has a central image of Douglas harbour with people in period dress pictured walking along the pier together with a lighthouse in the background. Excellent quality print. Double line border. You'll struggle to find a better all round example

The earliest known reference to the Isle of Man is in the 1st century AD and refers to it as 'Mona' (in Roman Latin)
