Pot Lid:     ARMY & NAVY CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY

Description:  An exceptionally rare small (2.75") sepia print lid from this popular supplier to the British armed forces that at first glance looks like the familiar 'Almond Shaving Cream' but is in fact a previously unrecorded 'Glycerine Cream' variant. Same two soldiers carrying flags as a tm in the centre. Plain but appealing design. Triple line border. Great quality print

Pot Lid:   'SYDNEY ROGERS'

Description:  An exceptionally rare and sought after pot lid from this Victorian seaside resort in Portsmouth, Hampshire featuring a fabulous and incredibly detailed pictorial of the famous 'HMS Victory' (see below). Exceptional quality print. Fancy border. Believed one of only two in existence, You're unlikely to ever have this opportunity again!

*HMS Victory (situated in Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard) is the world's oldest naval vessel still in commission with 248 years of service. She was ordered for the Royal Navy in 1758 and construction required the felling of 6000 trees, 90% of them oak

Pot Lid:   'PIESSE & LUBIN, LONDON'

Description:  A small (2.5") and scarce version of this attractive and popular pot lid manufactured by F & R Pratt in Staffordshire. This being the 'Parfumeurs' variant without the address in the centre and all the wording being in sepia print. Appealing colours with the various flowers (and their respective names in small banners) emblazoned around the outer edge. Excellent print quality

Provenance:  From the fabulous Trevor King collection. One of the very best and most extensive collections of both multicoloured and B&W pot lids in the world (which we have been asked to disperse over several sales)

Pot Lid:   'LORIMER & CO, LONDON & NEW YORK'

Description:  A large (3.25") version of this popular lid with a bunch of cherries design in the foreground and Lorimer's arm and globe trade mark below. Particularly dark print for one of these. Decorative beaded border

Condition (please see detailed photo's):   Very good/Excellent   Just has a tiny (1-2mm) fleabite on the back rim (together with a couple of old tiny rubs), some very subtle stain on the rim edge (barely seen on display) and a pretty insignificant very small scuff on the face edge at around 6 o'clock and is otherwise excellent (nb the small curved line on the underside of the rim is a small clay split and is totally glazed over)

Description:  An appealing pictorial lid from May Roberts & Co featuring a young girl leaning over a wall with cherries below. A real classic. Excellent quality print. Double-line border.

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Good   Has a hard to spot small (3mm x 20mm) repair to a chip on the outer edge at the top (between 1 and 2 o'clock and only just on the border), a small area of old nibbles on the inside of the back rim and the odd tiny pinprick rub on the back rim edge (hardly worth mentioning) and is otherwise excellent

Pot Lid:    'H.GILBERTSON & SONS LTD'

Description:  This lid features a great pictorial of the fabulous twin-spired Cologne Cathedral (although only one spire is evident on the lid). An impressive and popular lid.

Gilbertson's was taken over by 'Ayrton & Saunders' of Liverpool in 1904 

Era:  c1890's -1904

Condition (please see detailed photos):  Very good   Just has some minor glaze-crazing and a little glaze-wear on the face edge (in and around the 'TH' of the word tooth) and a very small (8mm) and pretty insignificant hairline bruise on the outer edge at 10 o'clock and is otherwise excellent

Description:  A very elaborate square pot lid with a beautifully designed layout from this East Sussex town on the south coast of England. Fine quality print. Scarce and desirable

Description:  A very appealing small (2.5") mauve coloured pot lid from this famous address in London. Very eye catching overall design incorporating contrasting shades to great effect. Decent quality print. A rare colour for any pot lid.

Pot Lid:   'RIMMEL'S'

Description:  A delightfully colourful 'Cherry Tooth Paste' pot lid from this famous London perfumer featuring seven cherries in shades of yellow/pink together with green leaves. Likely manufactured at the Pratt factory in Staffordshire. Unusually looks to be all underglaze (often the cherries are coloured over the glaze and can suffer from some fading). Decent print quality (with just a couple of print lines and tiny print misses on one of the leaves). Excellent colours for one of these too

Condition (please see detailed photos):    Good   Has a smallish (3mm x 12mm) area of nibbles on the edge of the back rim back rim, a small (3mm x 7mm) flake on the very back rim, and a tiny (2mm x 3mm) fleabite on the back rim edge (that have all been repaired) and is otherwise excellent

Description:  A scarce example of a genuine Atkinson's Bears Grease pot lid. This being the 4 shilling variant featuring the familiar superbly detailed bear in chains. Excellent print quality. Wide herringbone border

Condition (please see detailed photo's):   Good  Has a medium (4mm x 9mm) old chip on the back rim edge (not seen at all on display), patches of dark grey staining (mostly on the back rim) and some tiny dark dots in the glaze around parts of the outer rim where the glaze has run so looks in-manufacture) and is otherwise very good

Description:  A popular pictorial 'Bloater Paste' lid featuring a Yarmouth fishing boat. Single line border. 
Variant with 'Entered at Stationers Hall 1868' wording either side of 'Paste'. Excellent print quality.

Description:  One of several variations of these attractive Heal-All 'Quack Ointment' lids featuring a picture of a rather stern and matriarchal-looking lady in the centre. This being the rare example with the '26 Browning St' address in Walworth and the '26 York Street' one crossed out. Fancy herringbone border. Excellent dark print.

Pot Lid:   'VERITABLE MOELLE DE BOEUF'

Description:  An appealing 'Real Beef Marrow' lid with matching base with a large cow pictured on the lid and a country scene all around the base with buildings, cows, trees etc. Decorative print to side of lid and border as well as around bottom of base. Good strong print. British made (blue wording in French on underside of lid)

Era:  c1880-1900's

Diameter:  72mm  (height with lid: 59mm)

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  LID: Mint   Superb undamaged mint condition / BASE (very slightly smaller but looks to be the original): Very good  Just has two very small (2-4mm) flakes on the very top of the rim (one having a faint hairline bruise below and both completely hidden when lid on top) and is otherwise excellent with just a couple of minor flakes on the very bottom
