Embossing: 'WADSWORTH'S, MINERAL, WATERS, CAMBRIDGE'
Maker's mark: 'E. BREFFIT & CO LTD, MAKERS, CASTLEFORD'
Description: A simply superb 6oz mid-to-dark blue (nearer the darker side) Dobson's patent Codd with four round lugs from this ancient and world famed university city. Embossed well on both the front and back. Full original sheen. Lovely deep colour. Sensible reserve.
This is the exact Codd that sold for a £4850 hammer price back in June 2017 (AAA9 Lot #150)
Era: c1890-1900's
Dimensions: 185mm tall / 52mm wide
Condition (please see detailed photo's): Very good Has the odd minor sign of burial (surface rust, internal dirt, tiny scratches etc) which go to prove it hasn't been cleaned/tumbled in the past so they have been left on, and five tiny fisheyes above the 'WAD' of Wadsworth do little if anything to detract. Overal this really does look fabulous on display.
(nb A small (14mm long) thin narrow surface bubble (about 1cm to the left of the first 'W' of Wadsworth) has been polished down on the side at some time which everyone that handled it seemed to previously miss the first time round (even some seasoned Codd collectors) so as you can imagine it's very difficult to detect and pretty minor. However you can just see a small trace of this bubble (see close up photo) but really only see the polishing at certain angles)
