Pot Lid:   'AD QUINET, BRUXELLES'

Description:  An unusual Belgian lid featuring a rampant lion within a shield surmounted by a coronet/crown and 'prevention is better than a cure' in French written below within a banner. Highly glazed ceramic. Appealing layout & design

Pot Lid:   'PIVER, PARIS & LONDON'

Description:  A very appealing early Anglo-French lid for 'Real Beef Marrow' with matching base from this perfumer based in both Strasbourg, Paris and Regent Street, London. A very detailed large cow pictured on the lid and a pastoral scene all around the base with buildings, cows, a farm hand and bridge etc. Decorative print to side of lid. Not so often seen complete and so early

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Very good   Lovely condition for age with just a tiny insignificant old shallow flake on the very back edge of the lid (along with just one or two very minor glaze rubs close by) some very insignificant and slight wear on the top edge of the rim (barely worth mentioning) and is otherwise excellent (the odd tiny mark on the top of the lid is in manufacture and if anything adds to the overall appeal)

Description:  A large and impressive early pot lid and one of three from the Charlie Macleod collection. Striking white lettering on a black background. Rare and desirable


Era:  c1860-1880's

Diameter:  105mm  

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Fair/Good   Just has a few hairlines on the back and side rim (please see detailed photos) one just creeping onto the face at 2 o'clock (but barely visible on display) a very small (4mm) insignificant shallow old flake on the back rim (hardly worth mentioning) and some light and fine crazing (mainly on the side rim)

Description:  Another appealing 'Real Beef Marrow' lid with matching base with a large cow pictured on the lid and a country scene all around the base with buildings, cows, pine trees etc. Decorative print to side of lid and border. Great being complete with base

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Excellent   Superb condition with just a tiny insignificant old fleabite on the very top edge of the rim (barely worth mentioning) and very thin faint hairline/glaze-line on the inner rim (hardly visible and very minor) and is otherwise excellent

Description:  A small 'Dentifrice Powder' pot lid from this Parisian perfumer. Rampant lion and proprietor's entwined initials above within elaborate surround.

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Good   Just has a small (4mm) chip on the back edge, another smaller (2mm x 3mm) flake and a glaze rub on the underside of the outer rim and also on the back rim and is otherwise very good

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Good   Just has a small (5mm x 7mm) chip on the very back edge and a very shallow small (2mm x 5mm) flake close by (with 2 very insignificant glaze rubs either side) and one more very insignificant flake/hairline bruise also on the back edge and apart from some light and fine crazing/insignificant glaze wear in places is otherwise excellent

Pot Lid:   'ROSS & SONS, LONDON'

Description:  A fabulous Bears Grease pot lid from this named London retailer which was manufactured by F&R Pratt in Stafforshire (having the alignment dots at 3 & 9 o'clock near the lettering) and features 2 bears on a ravine in their natural habitat being shot at by a poacher while trying to protect their cubs. Full colours. Excellent quality print. The much rarer chequered double-border variant which has the original gold border too. Mounted in a wooden frame with a plaster back so no evidence either way of any possible rear damage.

Diameter:  100mm (lid) / 145mm (frame)  

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Unknown re back   The front and tiny amount of what you can see of the sides looks absolutely perfect but what the rest of it is like is anyone's guess. It could be mint or have chips/hairlines on the back or even chunks out or repairs, who knows!?

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Fair   Has various chips/chipping on about two-thirds of the back edge and a tiny indentation/fleabite on the face edge (at about 5 o'clock) which really looks to be in manufacture judging by the contour of the clay/glaze around it (either way it is pretty minor) and just some very fine glaze crazing in places

Pot Lid:      'WILSON FRECKLE CREAM CO, CHARLESTON, SC'

Description:   A fabulous complete pot lid and base from this South Carolina (USA) manufacturing chemist with all original labels and contents which was according to the wording on the labels 'to remove freckles, sunburn & tan' and even 'moth, pimples and chaps'. It goes on to explain that this is possible by use of a 'face bleach' (not so frequently recommended in this day and age!). Opaque glass lid/base and paper labels. Image of lady's face (without any freckles) within a heart. 

Copy of advert for this cream from Macon Daily Chronicle (Missouri) Sept 6th 1912.

Pot Lid:      'CHOIR OF THE CHAPEL ROYAL SAVOY DESTROYED BY FIRE ...'

Description:   An unusual Prattware pot lid in that it depicts the sad ruins of the Savoy Chapel after a devastating fire took a hold in July 1864. F&R Pratt, Staffordshire alignment dots at 3 and 9 o'clock on the face. Good quality print

Description:   A scarce South African cold cream pot lid decorated with roses which hails from this large seaport city in the Eastern Cape Province. Appealing design

Condition (please see detailed photo's):   Excellent   Has now been cleaned in rust remover and is in fabulous condition with just a small hairline bruise on the very back of the rim (not visible on display), three tiny specks of rust on the front (barely worth mentioning) and a tiny very insignificant grey stain also on the back rim
