Description:  A scarce 'Areca Nut Cherry Tooth Paste' pot lid and one of several in this auction from this spa town in North Yorkshire. Fancy Border. Very similar to lot #5 (Wilsons Limited). Appealing layout & design

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Mint   Superb undamaged condition with just a very insignificant small (8mm) patch of light stain on the side wall which in no way detracts when on display

Pot Lid:   'CHAS.E.J.EYNON, HARROGATE'

Description:  A scarce Cold Cream pot lid and one of several in this auction from this spa town in North Yorkshire. Very unusual thick black line border. Good fine print with plenty of scrolls and flourishes. 


Era:  c1900-1910's

Diameter:  71  mm 

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Excellent   Superb condition with just some light (rust?) stain on the very outside top edge in places and some light crazing/glaze lines which in no way detract. The tiny pinhead fleabite on the back rim is very insignificant and possiblt even an in-manufacture stilt-mark from the kiln.

Description:  Another scarce tooth paste pot lid from this spa town in North Yorkshire. Retains most of the original gold band border. Good fine print with appealing layout and inner decorative border too.

Description:  Another scarce cold cream pot lid from this spa town in North Yorkshire. Good fine print with very appealing stylised banner layout and triple-lined border. (unusual transfer-fold on border at 9 o'clock)

Description:  Another scarce 'Areca Nut Cherry Tooth Paste' pot lid and one of several in this auction from this spa town in North Yorkshire. Fancy Border. Very similar to lot #1 (Wilson & Son). Good strong print with appealing layout & design.

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Good   Just a light impact bruise hairline on the side (on the inside rim too) with a tiny pinhead fleabite in the middle (all as per close up photo) and a very insignificant almost invisible small (8mm) hairline on the back rim only is otherwise excellent (just a very light transfer rub)

Description:  A scarce tooth paste pot lid this time hailing from this cathedral city in the borough of Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Good strong print. 


Era:  c1900-1910's

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Good   Just an insignificant very small (6mm x 3mm) shallow chip on the back inside rim (which is 99% hidden from side view anyway) which does nothing at all to detract on display and is otherwise mint

Pot Lid:   'VERITABLE GRAISSE D'OURS'

Description:  A fabulous pictorial pot lid (text translated from French as 'Real Bears Grease') featuring a single bear in its natural habitat with mountains and pine trees in the background. Fine high quality overglaze print and remnants of original thin gold border. Indented (but inderterminable) impressed numbers (?) on the underside. Never seen another (?) Superb bears grease offering at a sensible low reserve!

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Excellent   Superb undamaged condition with just an in-manufacture small glazed-over flake on the back rim (barely noticeable anyway) and the original gold band is mostly worn away.

Pot Lid:   J. BALCOLM, CHELTENHAM'

Description:  A very striking large pot lid in fabulous red print from this Gloucestershire spa town. Much of the original gold band still intact. Particularly desirable mentioning 'Clove Tooth Paste' and 'Dental Surgeon'. Scarce. No reserve, so don't miss this one!


Era:  c1880-90's

Diameter:  85  mm 

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Fair   Has a thin faint stable 30mm hairline on the face (from the edge at 2 o'clock) and where this meets the edge there are some further hairlines on the back/side and a chip that has been filled on the inside back (please see detailed close-up photos, but because of where it is positioned this isn't visible on display anyway. Then apart from a small and pretty insignificant curved 20cm faint hairline bruise on the back/side on the opposite side of the lid (barely visible) is otherwise very good

Pot Lid:   SHOOTING BEARS

Description:  An appealing lid produced by F&R Pratt in Staffordshire, England depicting a bear hunt in the Pyrenees mountains. This being the earlier version featuring the bushes to the left and right. Occasionally nicknamed the 'gay bear lid' for fairly obvious reasons. Good quality print. Tiny Pratt Alignment circles at 3 and 9 o'clock respectively. An exellent example

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Mint   Superb undamaged condition with just a small 'foreign body' in the glaze on the side which is totally in-manufacture (and actually adds to the appeal) and would otherwise score 10

Description:  Another scarce 'Cold Cream' pot lid and one of several in this auction from this spa town in North Yorkshire. Good strong print. (similar to 'T.E. HANDFORD' lot #14 )

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Good/ Very good   A very faint hairline on the side rim and a similar one directly opposite (with a glaze-line on the underside that isn't at all visible in any way on the face (which is free from any defects at all bar some tiny dots that you can feel that are under the glaze and in-manufacture) and is absolutely superb on display

Pot Lid:   'HEPPELL & CO, LONDON'

Description:  A fabulous rectangular lid featuring the King of Hearts as a pictorial trade mark ('Roi D'Atout' meaning King of Trumps) and from this prestigious Picadilly Circus address in South West London. Superb quality print. Rarely seen for sale 


Era:  c1890-1900's

Dimensions:    95mm x 61mm   

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Poor   A large (24mm x 15mm) chunk from one of the corners/sides and two small (7mm x 5mm) chips on the back rim (on the corner diagonally opposite) Saying that though, most of the face is excellent and the print is not affected so could be repaired (?)

Description:  An attractive tooth paste pot lid from this large South Yorkshire town featuring a maltese cross just above the centre (with the letters 'D A V Y' within) Good fine print. Recess around border

Condition (please see detailed photo's):  Good   Just a small (4mm) shallow chip on the back/side edge, another smaller (3mm) very shallow flake further along also on the bottom edge and apart from a very insignificant tiny hairline bruise on the underside of the outer rim (which is not at all visible on display) is otherwise excellent
