| | 26th June (4pm) - More info (and advert) added re 'Thrixogentic Pomade'
Pot Lid: 'H. PRIOR'
Description: A very early Thrixogenetic' Pomade lid believed to be from a Plymouth retailer (please see below). Typically early print incorporating scrolls and flourishes. Flat top and delicately made, also pointing to an earlier date of manufacture. One of only two recorded examples
October 1846 an advert in the 'Plymouth & Devonport Advertiser' (see copy) stated that a H.Glover, Perfumier & Perruquier of No.10 Union Street, East Stonehouse, Plymouth had been appointed wholesale and retail supplier by the proprietor (the advert gave no details of who the proprietor was of this product, but there couldn't have been many other 'Thrixogenetic Pomades'?)
** One of many lids (and other fabulous items) painstakingly collected over the past 40 years by Terry Jackson who sadly passed away a few months back. Most items to be spread over the next 3 auctions **
Era: c1846-7+
Diameter: 77mm
Condition (please see detailed photo's): Fair A long and stable hairline all across the back and side rims, only extents 1cm into the face (at around 7 o'clock) this has presumably been strengthened at sometime with some light glue on the back only and apart from a very small (3mm x 9mm) old chip on the back rim, is otherwise excellent (the three tiny dots on the back rim are just stilt marks from the kiln)
Grade : 4.5 Estimate: £30-50 Reserve: N/R
